A SUCCESSFUL GARDEN


The success of your trees depends upon correct maintenance of your garden.
In this section we give general advice from first planting till harvesting.
In any case we strongly recommend that you consult us to ensure proper tree care.


SOIL, WATER AND FERTILIZERS

The type of soil is very important as regards what trees to plant, watering and fertilization. There are two main types of soil in our country.

LIGHT SOIL is sandy, poor in nutrition and does not hold water well. This type requires frequent watering in smaller doses. It needs lots of compost.

HEAVY SOIL contains more clay, is richer in nutrition and holds water well but is not aerated.
For this soil we recommend raising up the earth in mounds around the
base of trees and plants.

FOOTNOTE - If your soil contains chalk (white) please consult us about iron addition.


WATERING

We design and install a simple and efficient watering system to ensure that each tree receives its correct amount of water with no wastage.
We do not want your garden to be full of plastic pipes, but neither do we recommend watering with a hose.
It is important that the trees receive water every day in the summer, spring and fall in quantity proportionate to their size and environmental conditions. In winter they do not require any water.

Roughly speaking:

In its’ first year of life a tree needs 5 liters per day
second year 10 liters per day
third and up 15-20 liters per day


PRUNING

There are three reasons why we must prune:

1. To shape for esthetic reasons
2. To encourage  fruit production
3. To facillitate tree growth.
